As a child and teenager, I was always active but never really excelled at any one particular sport. You name it – I tried gymnastics and ballet, played soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, and even ran x-country in middle and high school. (My x-country coach wouldn’t let me compete under my hard-earned OFSAA spot because I wasn’t able to attend practice regularly enough, as it usually conflicted with basketball practice.)
When I was 12 years old, I set a lofty goal to make it to the Olympics for swimming – go big or go home! My mother dutifully brought my younger brother and I to try out for a local swim club and we were told that we were “too old” to start competitive swimming. My dream of becoming a high-level athlete was shut down. I avoided joining the swim team in high school, as I figured there was no point in starting then if I had been rejected by the sport in the past.
My love of exercise and the human body led me to an undergrad degree in Kinesiology at Western University in London, Ontario, where I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in physiotherapy. The summer after I graduated from Western, I competed in my first triathlon and immediately fell in love with the sport.
Before I started physio school at the University of Toronto, I took a “gap year” and spent 5 months traveling in South America, all the way from Colombia and Venezuela to southern Chile and Argentina. When I returned from that trip, I purchased my first triathlon bike and signed myself up for more races.
I met some of my best friends in physio school and we bonded during post-lecture runs in downtown Toronto and cottage weekends in Haliburton. I even managed to convert a few of them to triathlon, along with my husband!
I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. In late 2018, my husband and I moved to Nanaimo, British Columbia, on beautiful Vancouver Island. I am a physiotherapist at Pinpoint Physiotherapy & IMS, where I enjoy treating athletes (especially anyone who swims, bikes or runs) and active, older adults. I am a proud MelRad Racing athlete and train with an incredible group of triathletes based in Victoria. I have also been a brand ambassador for Brava, a Canadian women’s endurance apparel company, since 2020.
I am a middle child with 2 brothers and I am the proud auntie of 4 nephews and 5 nieces. Family is paramount to me; my younger brother’s experience living with chronic pain over the past decade has brought my family closer together. It has also given me a deeper appreciation of the incredible ability we all have to move our bodies and explore the world on two feet (or two wheels).
My husband and I have two beautiful daughters, born in 2020 and 2022. Since they were both babies, we have taken them on countless outdoor adventures including hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. I hope to set a positive example for them and want them to know that as a woman, you really can do anything and everything.
